FINAL MOCK DRAFT UPDATE

APRIL 24th, 2009

Pro Sports Draft would like to thank everyone for being a part of the site launch and keeping the site active. Sorry for the long wait for the new mock update but we are once again updated and can't wait for the draft to start tomorrow. The draft will determine how smart, or not-smart us mock guys are after months of hard work trying to keep you as up to date as possible on the latest happenings from around the league.

The new mock draft features several suprises from the Lions selecting Aaron Curry top overall instead of the consensus pick Matthew Stafford to several key prospects who were once considered sure first rounders falling to the 2nd round. Enjoy and hope to do it again for the 2010 NFL Season.

Final Mock Draft: Round 1 - Round 2

MATTHEW STAFFORD WILL BE THE NUMBER ONE PICK

APRIL 24th, 2009

The Detroit Lions have reached an agreement with top QB prospect Matthew Stafford on a 6 year deal that is believed to be worth 72 million to go with 41 million in guaranteed money. The deal can surpass all the way to 78 M if Stafford meets all his incentives.

The two sides had turned up the heat in contract talks in recent days leading up to tomorrow's draft. This shouldn't come as a surprise as almost the entire NFL saw this as a no brainer. The only one's surprised could be some Lion faithfuls who cheered for Curry at the team's unveiling of the new uni's and logo this past Monday.

Either way, the Lions front office did everything right and got the man they wanted all along. The 78 million dollar deal makes Stafford the highest paid rookie player in the history of the NFL Draft. His 41.7 million dollars in guaranteed money tops Albert Haynesworth 41 mill. in guaranteed money in his 100 million dollar contract signed in early March.

Stafford is a happy man and Detroit is the place he wanted to be all along.

All eyes are now on the St. Louis Rams as they are one team to watch for. The #2 position has had lots of speculation in the weeks leading up to the draft as they have lots of options.

The Rams can shock the league and shake up the entire first round if they chose to select rising QB Mark Sanchez who several teams are hoping he falls past the Rams so they can trade up and snatch the former USC standout.

Back to the Lions, they got the guy they wanted and that's what counts most. The star QB from Georgia will look to turn fortunes in Detroit and turn around the worst team in NFL history, record wise.

All in all, we can't wait til tomorrow's unusual 4 PMs ET start. Look for lots of teams looking to move up and do what it takes to get the guy they want and someone they think can put them over the top.

Enjoy the draft folks, I know I will.

Pro Sports Draft--The 2009 combine is underway and this is where players have the opportunity to show what they got and separate themselves from the rest of the group. PATRIOTS PLACE FRANCHISE TAG ON QB MATT CASSEL

FEBRUARY 5th, 2009

BOSTON (AP)—The New England placed the franchise tag on Matt Cassel on Thursday, making it tougher for other teams to sign the free agent quarterback.

The Patriots might keep him if they have doubts that Tom Brady will be ready for the start of next season after sustaining a serious knee injury in the 2008 opener. If they’re confident Brady will be ready, they could trade Cassel rather than pay him the $14.65 million offer for 2009 in the franchise designation.

Cassel had a breakout season in 2008, starting 15 games after starting none the seven previous seasons—four with Southern California as backup to Heisman Trophy winners Carson Palmer and Matt Leinart, and three after New England drafted him in the seventh round in 2005.

For now, he remains a free agent, but the Patriots can match any offer made by another team or allow him to sign with that team in exchange for two first-round draft picks. The franchise tag value is the average of the top five paid NFL players at a particular position...continue...

SUPER FINISH

FEBRUARY 1st, 2009

TAMPA, Fla. -- Capping a remarkable fourth quarter, Santonio Holmes made a brilliant catch for a 6-yard touchdown with 35 seconds remaining to give the Pittsburgh Steelers a record sixth Super Bowl title, 27-23 over the gutty Arizona Cardinals on Sunday night.

Arizona was poised for the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history when Larry Fitzgerald hauled in his second touchdown pass, a 64-yarder from Kurt Warner with 2:37 left to put the Cardinals ahead 23-20.But the Steelers drove 78 yards, with Holmes making a 40-yard catch that gave Pittsburgh a first down at the 6. After an incompletion, Ben Roethlisberger lofted a pass over three Arizona defenders in the right corner of the end zone, and Holmes brought it down while dragging the toes of each foot in bounds.

My Superbowl prediction was a little off but the Steelers had enough at the end to pull it out.

Arizona Cardinals: 23           Pittsburgh Steelers: 27

SUPERBOWL PREDICTION

JANUARY 31st, 2009

The Superbowl is a day away and as much as I like the Steelers to win this game, I just don't see that happening with the upstart Cardinals. The Cardinals have to go on the road for just the second time these playoffs but I still don't see them losing with that high powered offense they have.

Larry Fitzgerald, in my opinion, is the most complete receiver in the league. He has the size, strength, speed, playmaking ability,...anything you can ask for in a wideout. The Steelers have the better defense but with the momentum the Cardinals offense has heading into this game, I don't see the Steelers slowing them down.

The Cards are the younger team and have more hunger since most of these same Steelers won it all just a couple of years ago with Bill Cowher as coach. Kurt Warner is still as dangerous as ever and with a solid running game and solid blitz packages, I can see them topping the mighty favorite Steelers.

My Superbowl Prediction:

Arizona Cardinals: 31        Pittsburgh Steelers: 24
